My Downtown Dog, Meet Miss Little Foot formerly Chunk
Posted Jan 7, 2009 by kimberly Uncategorized
Little Foot was found wandering the downtown streets late one night. A search was undertaken to find her owners, but they were unable or unwilling to be found. She is currently living with me, my husband, and our three other dogs. Our guess is she is around 6 months old. Most of her puppy teeth are gone. We have had her for six weeks and in that time she has been potty-trained, crate-trained, sleeps through the night, knows sit and stay – we are working on come and lay down, and waits for her food until the “okay” is given. She is good on a leash – though when I take them out and try to run, she trys to “walk” the other two by grabbing onto their leashes as we run – its actually quite cute, but if you stop she immediately releases (I am trying to teach her this is not appropriate).
She is a food hound and basically sucks the food in without chewing. I had one that did that when we initially got her, but has since grown out of it. My belief is that it comes from not knowing if you are going to get another meal (she was found in a barn in the foothills). When we first had her at the house, she would try desperately to get the other dogs food when she was finished with hers. We are working on teaching her this is not okay and she is beginning to understand that it is not appropriate. It is a work in progress. She knows she has to sit and stay and wait for “okay” until she can eat.
She is still a puppy and therefore likes socks, underwear, and my shoes (not my husbands, just mine). However, all my dogs love my shoes no matter the age. She was mouthy the first few weeks, but is finally growing out of it. She enjoys nylabones and kongs.
She is not spayed, so that is one of my requirements for adoption. No spay, no adoption. She appears to be a boxer/terrier/lab mix or staffy/terrier/lab mix (but in Fresno , who the heck knows). I do not know how she responds around children. She seems to disregard cats unless they run, then she thinks they are playing with her. Little Foot will be the alpha (with regard to dogs) in the household so please take that into account if you have other dogs. However, it should always be that the humans in the home remain the alpha over all dogs in the home. She would be best suited for a home with submissive dogs or be the only dog.
If you are interested in Little Foot, please shoot me an email telling me a little about yourself and any questions you may have. There will be an adoption process, so please be prepared to answer questions and receive a home visit. There will be a rehoming fee which can be made out to a local animal rescue group. I have a couple in mind, but if you feel strongly about one organization we can surely discuss.
Little Foot is a fantastic, smart dog, who wants to give nothing but love to her family. I merely want her family to do the same. I have fallen in love with her and want her to have the best home possible. She will be an extremely loyal and loving member of the family.
Below are some photos of her alone and with my shepard.
